CHATHAM – Mable Gifford, 99, of Chatham died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.
She was born June 17, 1910, in Bonne Terre, Mo., the daughter of Samuel and Ina Todd Sharpe. She married Richard H. Gifford on April 10, 1931; he preceded her in death on June 20, 1983. Also preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Sam Gifford; a sister, Nellie Walker; and a brother, Frank Sharpe.
Mrs. Gifford, a homemaker, lived in Springfield and the Chatham area most of her life.
She was a former member of First Baptist Church in Springfield and was a current member of Chatham Baptist Church. She enjoyed arts and crafts and had taught many people how to crochet. She was a fantastic cook.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Eleanor (Charles) Wombwell of Springfield; three grandchildren, Doug Gifford of Chatham, Brad (Paige) Gifford of Brandon, FL, and Stacey Porro of Clearwater, FL; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Barbara Sharpe of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services at noon Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Milton Bost officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
