SAINT FRANCIS – Sister M. Michael Lu, OSF, 86, of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis died at 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at St. Francis Convent in Springfield.
Sister Michael, the former Francis Lu, was born in Peiping, Hopeh, China, on Dec. 28, 1921, the daughter of Lu Cheng and Lu Yuan Shih Ying. She entered the congregation on June 23, 1948, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1951.
Sister Michael came to the United States in June 1948. She became a U.S. citizen on May 27, 1963. Sister Michael served the community in various domestic roles.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for more than 60 years.
Visitation will be held at the Motherhouse from 4 to 7 p.m. with a wake service at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 28, 2008. The Eucharistic celebration and rite of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM, at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
