Lyndell J. “Jay” Boyce, 88, of Springfield, died at 7:48 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born on January 1, 1923 in Murphysboro, IL to Leland and Stella Gill Boyce. He married Cherie I. Perry on July 10, 1943 and she preceded him in death on August 14, 2001. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Lavern Boyce.
He is survived by one daughter, Janis M. (Wayne) Edwards of Chatham, one son, Steven L. Boyce of Springfield; four grandchildren, Carrie (Clayton) Roth, Denise (Adam) Justus, Robert (Beri) Edwards, and Jay (Kimberly) Edwards; one great-grandson Merrick Edwards.
Lyndell was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran serving during WWII as a bombardier. He served 15th Air Force based in Italy. He was a member of Woodside Methodist Church, Springfield Elks Lodge 158 and AT & T Telephone Pioneers. He was employed as a supervisor at AT & T retiring in 1985.
Visitation: 10:30 am – 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12:00 p.m., Monday, September 19, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Dave Estep officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorials may be made to Woodside Methodist Church.
