SPRINGFIELD – Lucia E. Handshy, 83, of Springfield died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born May 17, 1926, in Chatham, the daughter of Seibert and Eva Spires Jordan. She married Arthur Handshy in 1970; he preceded her in death in 1996.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and four brothers.
She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Sprinkel of Springfield; two stepsons, Scott Handshy of Manassas, Va. and Christopher M. Handshy of Kokomo, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lucia was a lifelong resident of the Springfield area. She was hairdresser and owned and operated the Powder Box.
She was a past member of Quota International and was a member of Hairdressers Association, VFW Auxiliary (Lady Bugs) and she enjoyed reading.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with the Rev. Jack Swank officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League.
