Louis Romano, 84, of Springfield died at 5:30 am, June 6, 2011 at Oak Terrace Healthcare Center.

Louis was born May 16, 1927, in Cerda, Sicily, Italy, the son of Pietro and Francesca Salemi Romano. He immigrated to the United States in 1960. He married Frances Aiello on April 8, 1961, at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Springfield. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2009. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Antonio Romano and Salvatore Romano.

He is survived by his son, Peter Louis (wife, Amy) Romano of Springfield; two grandchildren, Isabella May and Sophia Marie Romano, both of Springfield; three sisters, Domenica Scavo of Palermo, Paula Albanese of Springfield and Biagia Agnello (husband, Angelo) of Palermo; two brothers, Fillippo Romano of Springfield and Mario Romano (wife, Ines) of Palermo; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Louis worked as a machinist in Sicily, and later was employed as a heating and air conditioning engineer at Franklin Life Insurance Company until his retirement. He was a natural musician, and loved playing the accordion, harmonica, organ, and piano. He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, and later became a member of St. Joseph’s Church. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Visitation: 9-11 am Friday, June 10, 2011 at St. Joseph Church.

Funeral Mass: 11:00 am, Friday, June 10, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Church, with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Church.
