Louis I. Peters, 95 of Springfield, died at 5:24 a.m., Friday, July 27, 2012 at his home. He was born September 26, 1916 in Springfield to Charles and Julia Griffin Peters. Louis married Elsie Bietsch on August 29, 1940. His parents; four brothers, Otto, Carl, Robert and Jack; one sister, Evelyn Bietsch and one daughter-in-law, Linda Peters preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; one daughter, Mary Able of Springfield; one son, David Peters of Colorado Springs, CO; one granddaughter, Sadie (Erik) Thompson of Phoenix, AZ; three great grandchildren, Kennedy, Julia and Carter and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of St. Joseph Church. Louis was a Contract Manager with PPG Industries and retired with 38 years of service. He was a United States Army veteran during WWII serving in New Guinea and the Philippines with the 6th Division, 20th Regiment. He received 2 Bronze Battle Stars and 1 Bronze Star. Louis was a member of VFW Northenders Post 10302 and AMVETS and had formerly been a member of the Blue Ridge Club and the Riviera Club in Bissell. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a volunteer at St. John’s Breadline.
Visitation: 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 12 p.m., Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Monsignor Thomas Holinga officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Home Hospice.
