Lloyd “Vern” Dennison, 85, of Springfield, died at 10:28 pm, Friday, December 21, 2018 at Memorial Hospice at Heritage. He was born in Bloomington, IL to Elza and Ethel Dennison on June 25, 1933. He married Janay E. Thomas on April 29, 1955 in Hopkinsville, KY and they had 63 great years together.
He is survived by his wife, Janay; two daughters, Terri Scaife of Colgate, WI and Debbi (Steve) Leach of Springfield; one son, Barry (Charlotte) Dennison of Springfield; five grandchildren, Chad Scaife, Ashley (Chris) Calhoun, Courtney (Danny) McGee and Brittney and Jordan Leach and four great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Tom Scaife and a great-grandson.
Vern grew up in Elkhart, graduating from Elkhart High in 1951 before completing Peoria Barber College. He practiced barbering in Springfield for 56 years, loving every day of it. During his career, he worked with so many good people and customers that he felt “if you enjoy your job, you never have to work a day in your life”.
Vern was a U.S. Army Veteran, loved family, golf, fishing and just being outdoors. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Springfield.
