Lloyd Dean Thompson, 72, of Springfield, died on July 9, 2020. He was born June 23, 1948 in Herrin, IL to Samuel Lloyd and Doris Jeanette (Teffertillar) Thompson, and they preceded him in death. He married Deborah L. Thompson on July 12, 1969 and she preceded him in death on November 14, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter, Dawn Colvin.

He is survived by two daughters: Tammy Ayers and Dana Thompson, both of Springfield, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one sister, Sharon Bowman.
Lloyd, a longtime Springfield resident was a proud U.S. Army Veteran. During his time serving in the Army, he was with the 19th engineer and he was a 50 CAL. APC machine gun and track operator. He retired from Laborer’s Local #477 Union. He was a Past Commander of the D.A.V. Club, a member of AMVETS and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and drinking.

Graveside Service: 2 pm, Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Pastor Milton Bost officiating. Military honors will be conducted.

Memorial contributions may be made the Shriner’s Hospital for Children in St. Louis, MO.
