SPRINGFIELD – Letha L. Taranta, 90, of Springfield died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Maple Ridge Care Center in Lincoln.
She was born Aug. 16, 1917, in Springfield, the daughter of Angelo and Nancy Frasco Taranta. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Anthony Taranta; two sisters, Josephine Sparling and Marie Bartolomucci; and a nephew, Mike Bartolomucci.
She was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She worked at Jewel Lounge, then was a typist for the federal government in Washington, D.C. She retired from the state of Illinois Department of Revenue.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a graduate of Springfield High School. She gave to many charities.
Surviving are her sisters, Leonora Taranta of Springfield and Irene Garcia of Gallatin, Tenn.; two nephews, Thomas E. (wife, Barbara) Bartolomucci Sr. of Chatham and Ronald Garcia of Gallatin, Tenn.; two nieces, Valencia L. (husband, Edwin J.) Rawlings of Springfield and Marilyn Garcia of Gallatin; and several cousins.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home with the Rev. Anthony Pilli officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
