Lester L. Reed, Sr.

Lester L. Reed, Sr., 81, of Springfield, died at 7:15 pm, Friday, March 20, 2015 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born May 1, 1933 in Springfield, to Jesse and Mary Clayton Reed. He married Ida Louise Eddington on February 4, 1956 and she survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Marvin Eugene Reed and a brother, Albert Reed.

Lester is survived by two sons, Lester L. Reed, Jr. and Cliff (Amanda) Reed, both of Springfield; four grandchildren, Maisie, Madilynn, Jett and Cash; three sisters, Margaret (Denny) Bast of Ashland, Dorothy Staten of Taylorville and JoAnn Sallenger of Springfield; two brothers, James Reed of Taylorville and Ronald Reed of Waverly and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was the owner and operator of Reeds Tree Removal, Trimming and Stump Removal. He was a Marine Veteran. Lester was a life member of the DAV. He enjoyed small engine repair, going to auctions, boxing, fishing, being outdoors and going to Big R and Farm & Home. He enjoyed spending time with family and being a mentor to those he met.

Visitation: 10 – 11 am, Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: 11 am, Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Chris House officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail and the United States Marine Corp.
