Leon C. Quandt, 79, of Springfield, died at 12:30 pm on Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. John’s Hospice. He was born on November 18, 1934 in Mt. Pulaski to Eles and Ruby Clendenen Quandt. He married Jacquelyn M. Rychel in 1957 and she preceded him in death in 1996. He married Patricia Epperson in 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Craig Nabb.
Surviving are his wife, Patti; two sons, James (Jennifer) Quandt of Effingham and Jerry Quandt of Springfield; two step sons, Brian Nabb (companion Melanie Thornton) and Todd (Julie) Nabb, both of Springfield; five grandchildren, Jason, Stephen, Justin, Logan and Joshua; one great-grandchild, Abby Quandt; three step grandchildren, Sydney Nabb, Kaylee Horner and Allen Horner; one sister, Eloise (Charles) Webb of Keokuk, IA; one brother, Paul (Anna) Quandt of Cocoa, FL and several nieces, nephews and one cousin.
Mr. Quandt was a member of Lakeside Christian Church. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1958-59. Leon was a member of the Springfield Motor Boat Club. He retired from CIPS in 1995 after 32 years as a claims supervisor.
Leon was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in April, 2009 and fought a courageous battle against his disease.
Visitation: 4 – 7 pm, Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Lakeside Christian Church.
Lie in State: 10-11 am Friday, January 10, 2014 at Lakeside Christian Church.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Friday, January 10, 2014 at Lakeside Christian Church with Pastor Jon Morrissette officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail.
