A most precious angelic voice has been called to the heavenly choir so that she may meet her Lord and sing his praises for all the talents she had been given in this life that she has shared with us all over her short time on this earth. The ravages of her breast cancer were just too much.
She was born on January 14, 1963 to Glen and Ruth Elaine Galyon in Springfield and graduated from Lanphier High School. She studied at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington and graduated with a degree in music from Springfield College in Illinois. She went on to get her degree in business from the University of Illinois-Springfield.
The last twenty three years of her professional career were with the State Board of Education beginning as a part time data entry specialist and concluding as the Executive Assistant to the Director of the State Board of Education.
So many have been blessed to have participated in her contributions to the traditional choirs and Contemporary Praise Teams at First United Methodist Church. She was also well known and highly respected for her directing and performing endeavors for Springfield Theatre Centre, The Muni, Jacksonville Theatre Guild, Theatre in the Park – New Salem, Lincoln Community Theatre, Springfield Ballet Company, Sacred Heart Griffin and the Illinois Symphony Chorus. Although she may have started later in her life she touched the hearts and lives of so very many – young and old. Those that she has directed, taught, mentored and entertained won’t forget what she has done for them or how she has enriched and affected their lives. Her list of accomplishments would be exhaustive. Merely take a moment and recall her sweet soprano voice and share what it did for you with someone close.
She is survived by her mother, Elaine Galyon, and her husband of 24 years, Edward H. Smith, and numerous relatives.
She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Galyon.
