Lee B. Shryock, 89, of Springfield, died at 6:30 pm, Monday, August 11, 2014 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village. He was born August 22, 1924, in Canton, Illinois to Cecil and Maude Wooddell Shryock. He married Frances E. Solomon on June 2, 1950 and she preceded him in death on October 16, 1998.
Survivors include one daughter Colleen (Greg) Pinto of Springfield; two sons, Byron (Sue) Shryock of Riverton and Dan (Glynnis) Shryock of Springfield; six grandchildren, Sonya, Scott, Alex (Jane), Danielle, Mariah and Hannah; one step great granddaughter, Jordan and his beloved cat, Punkin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Dennis Shryock.
Lee was a member of Fairview Baptist Church. He was a US Navy Veteran, serving during WWII with the Seabees at Normandy, Omaha Beach as a part of the Underwater Demolition Team.
He was a graduate of Springfield High School. He participated in many Mission trips for the American Baptist Convention throughout the United States and to Costa Rica multiple times and Nicaragua and to Russia with Book of Hope Distribution and was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity.
He worked as a carpenter and retired from Sangamo Electric after twenty seven years of Service and also retired from Goodwill Industries.
Visitation: 9:30-11:30 am, Friday, August 15, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Friday, August 15, 2014 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Standard officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where Military Honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Baptist Church or to Sangamon County Animal Protective League.
