Lawrence Lane

ATHENS – Lawrence Lane, 85, of Athens died at 1:21 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 19, 1922, in Houston, Mo., the son of Harve and Bessie Capps Lane. He married Eloise Stubbs on Oct. 10, 1942.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Oscar Lane and Otto Lane; and two sisters, Christine Dunn and Edna Moon.

He was a resident of Springfield for most of his life. He retired as chief electrical inspector for the city of Springfield and also was an electrician.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 522 and the DAV. He was a member of the U.S. Army in the 136th Combat Engineers serving during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise; a daughter, Joyce (William) Lee Lane Ford of Beaumont, Texas; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Pastor Tom Eggley officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Interveterans Burial Detail of Sangamon County will conduct military honors.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Petersburg.
