Larry P. Johnson, Sr., 62, of Springfield, died at 7:25 pm, Friday, October 20, 2017 at Wellington Regional Medical Center. He was born September 16, 1955 in St. Louis, MO to LP and Malinda Lyons Johnson who preceded him in death.
Surviving relatives include his beloved sweetheart and love of his life Marchal Stewart of Springfield, IL, two daughters Jennifer Johnson of St. Cloud, MN and Nefra Johnson of Springfield, IL, one son Larry P. (Monika) Johnson, Jr. of Mahomet, IL, two grandchildren, Kadedra Johnson of West Memphis, AR and Moralis Micks Jr. of Minneapolis, MN, and one great-grandson Antonio Hampton, one sister Elsie (Milton) Gardner of Aurora, IL, four brothers Dwane (Vianna) Jimerson of Lawrence, KS, Bobby (Gloria) Jimerson of Stanford, VA, Dexter Jimerson of Atlanta, GA, and Shelby (Sandy) Jimerson of Gary, IN and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Pat Johnson.
Larry retired from the State of Illinois in the Information Technology Department and the United States Army. Upon retirement, Larry substitute taught in Illinois and Florida and he worked in the IT Department of Palm Beach State College.
Larry was a member of Abundant Faith Christian Center for over twenty years. He loved traveling, bike riding, cooking extremely large meals for family gatherings and spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral Service: Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11 am, Abundant Faith Christian Center with Pastor Jerry W. Doss officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concordia University – Chicago.
