SPRINGFIELD – Lana G. Melcher, 49, of Springfield died at 12:03 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at her residence.
She was born May 19, 1959, in Springfield, the daughter of Sherman and Annabelle Hayes Fickas. She married Walter R. Melcher III on Oct. 18, 1976. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Danny Fickas.
Mrs. Melcher was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was an information technology analyst for Memorial Medical Center for 18 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and former member of the Tech Committee for Contemporary Worship.
Surviving are her husband, Walter R. Melcher III; two daughters, Stacy (husband, Brian) Chastain of Springfield and Melissa (husband, Anthony) O’Neal of Girard; three grandchildren, Kailey, Shelby and Zachary O’Neal of Girard; four sisters, Carolyn (husband, Orville) Parnell, Shirley Louise McGrew, Linda (husband, Dennis) Morgan and Tammy (husband, Rick) McLean, all of Springfield; four brothers, Gene (wife, Kathy) Fickas, Jim (wife, Bonnie) Fickas and John Fickas, all of Springfield and David (wife, Carolyn) Fickas of Rochester; several aunts and uncles; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at noon, Monday, May 4, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Greg Busboom officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Family prefers memorials to be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
