Kenneth “Kenny” Ray Schnapp, 57, of Farmersville, died at 8:09 pm, Monday, June 24, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born November 17, 1955 in Springfield, Illinois to Kenneth B. Schnapp and the late Patricia A. Duffy Schnapp.
Prior to his forced retirement, due to medical issues, he was a General Contractor, specializing in residential construction and remodeling, primarily in Chatham and Springfield. He was owner of Schnapp Construction, Inc. He had previously worked for Fiat-Allis; Duffy’s Inc.; Prior’s Masonry; Matthews Transfer Co.; Springfield Park District; Mary Hodson Gas Station on South MacArthur at the age of 14 and for McCartney’s IGA, sacking potatoes at the age of 12.
He was a past member of Eagles Club; Laborers Local 477; United Auto Workers (UAW) and Teamsters Local. Kenny enjoyed working on his 100 year old farm house, gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard and spending time with his family including his constant companions, his beloved dogs, Bentley and Beatrice and his 60 chickens.
He is survived by his wife, Venetia Lee Weiler Schnapp of Farmersville, whom he married in 2003 in Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Stephanie Ann Schnapp (life partner: Kendra Bickley) of Oakland, CA; sons, Aaron Paul (wife: Brittany) Schnapp of Chatham; Jonathan Mikel Schnapp (companion: Erin Shaefer) of Springfield and Nicholas Ray (wife: Amanda) Hackwith of Pawnee; father, Kenneth B. (wife: Greta) Schnapp of Springfield; sister, Deborah Mataya of Chicago; brother, Tom (wife: Theresa) Schnapp of Springfield; half-brother, Steve (wife: Becky) Schnapp of MO; step-sister, Teresa (husband: Chris) Millmore of Bloomington; six grandchildren, Chelsea, Katie, Wade, Abby, Austin and Colby; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, great nieces and great nephews.
His mother preceded him in death on October 22, 2008 and a brother, Michael P. Schnapp on December 15, 2011.
Visitation: 11 am – 2 pm, Friday, June 28, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 2 pm, Friday, June 28, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with Father Jerry Bunse officiating.
Private entombment at Oak Ridge Mausoleum will be held at a later date.
