Kenneth Duane Barnes, Sr. of Springfield, died at 6:10 pm, Sunday, July 26, 2015 at his home. He was born January 27, 1955 in Springfield, IL to Joseph Henry Barnes and Lois Jean Williams Barnes Hackwith.

Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Barnes and Jessica Barnes-Mitchell both of Springfield; one son, Kenneth Duane Barnes, Jr. of Springfield; four grandchildren, Johnathon Lee, Maddison Alaya, London Jamison and Hazel Lynn; two sisters, Brenda Hunt of Springfield and Sandy Cody of Auburn; three brothers, Joseph Glenn Barnes of Waverly, IA, Randall J. (Maureen) Barnes of Broadwell and Ronald Earl Barnes of KY; two step brothers, Butch (Sarah) Hackwith and Larry Hackwith both of Springfield and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two twin infant brothers and two step brothers, Bobby Ray and Otto Eugene Hackwith.

Kenneth was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and was a US. Marine Corps veteran serving for ten years from 1967 – 1977. He enjoyed Cardinals Baseball, working every day and playing ball. His grandkids were the light of his life. He always put everyone before himself.

He had been the custodian for nine years at St. John’s Lutheran Church and also had served as custodian for Charlie Satler.

Visitation: 10 am -1 pm, Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Funeral Service: 1 pm, Saturday, August 1, 2015 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Busboom and Pastor Ladd Sonnenberg officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Sweetwater with military honors.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
