SPRINGFIELD – Kathryn V. Wertepny, 82, of Springfield died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born March 5, 1927, in Chicago, the daughter of Charles and Madaline Frank La Roche. She married Eugene R. Wertepny on January 28, 1950. They have been married for 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her father; her mother, Madaline Goss; 1 sister, Rosemary La Roche; 3 brothers, Bud, Sid and Charles La Roche.
She is survived by her husband; daughter, Linda (Bob) Ray of Mission Viejo, CA; 3 sons, Alan (Jana) Wertepny of West Palm Beach, FL, Steven (Pat) Wertepny of Cincinnati, OH and Terry Wertepny of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, Ryan, Randy (Dr. Kelly), Douglas, Bradley Ann, Casey and Jeremy Wertepny.
A resident of Springfield since July 1952, she retired in 1991 from the secretary of state in the title department.
Kathryn was a member of Little Flower Church. She enjoyed playing pinochle and bridge and had played with the same group for over 40 years. She also enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was a Brownie leader and was active with the Cub Scouts and delivered Meals on Wheels. She was a graduate from Menominee High School in Menominee, MI class of 1945.
A memorial gathering will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Little Flower School.
