ROCHESTER – Kathryn “Kate” S. Reese, 80, of Rochester, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
Kathryn was born in Springfield on October 29, 1930, to Samuel & Theresa Shandor Hryhorysak. She married Howard Reese on May 27, 1950.
She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1948. She then worked as a secretary for many years for local attorneys and State Senator Coffey and still managed to raise six children. After retiring, she and her husband owned and operated Kate’s Bait for 28 years in New City, spending summers at the bait shop and winters down South. Thanks to all the fisherman who made her life so fulfilled. She loved the fish stories. In 2007 with much regret, she sold the bait shop and lived part-time in Las Vegas, NV where she loved playing Bingo and video poker machines. Kathryn also loved spending time with her family, cooking, reading, crocheting and playing cards.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son Michael; two brothers Bernie and Joe Hryhorysak; a sister Anna Mae Miner, and brothers-in-law Carl Midden and Don Miner.
She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Walter) Blake of Mt. Carmel, IL; sons David of Mississippi, Bill (Kay) of Rochester, Bob (Leann) of Springfield, and Tony (Anna Marie) of Rochester; brothers Bill (Shirley) Locksus of Mexico, MO and Sam Hryhorysak of Alaska; sisters Bernice Midden of Springfield, Jeannette (Milton) Miner of Rochester, and Terri (John) Petrie of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Michael (Amy) Blake, Chris, Michelle, Justin, Chad (Annette), Ben (Karrie), Joe, Ryan, Kaylee, Michael and Jacob Reese; great-grandchildren Kathryn and Owen Blake, Darrion Reese and Reese Humes; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation will be accorded by Staab Funeral Home.
The family will be having a private service at a later date.
