Kathryn B. Brazier

November 25, 1947 - May 25, 2017

God gave us each a special gift a gift to give and share. He blessed Kathy with the gift of love and she spread it everywhere.

Kathryn, was born November 25, 1947 in Springfield, IL, the daughter of Luther and Frances Brazier. She departed this life on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Luther and Charles Brazier and one sister, Agnes Marie Brazier Ousley.

She is survived by her sisters, Helen Toney of Springfield, Frances (Sidney) Mordaunt of Windsor, CT, Toni Cowsette of Charlotte, NC, Donna (Ricky) Brazier Brown of Alexandria, VA and Cleo Brazier of Concord, NC and extended family members, Sheila Shields of Springfield and Deidra Taylor Hogan of Kansas City, KS. Also Kathryn is survived by two aunts, Jeanne and Aljean; nieces and nephews as follows; Jake, Mario, Gina, Jackie, Joy, Samad, Lawrence, Christopher, Eric, and a host of great nieces, nephews, dear cousins and wonderful friends.

Kathy was baptized as an infant and developed a personal relationship with Jesus and daily prayer life throughout her life journey. She served as an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary and spent time at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Her passions in life were family, compassionate caregiving and pouring out her loving spirit. Puggie, as she was called by family, enjoyed travel, nature, reading, writing, cooking, dancing, having fun and sharing her sense of humor. Puggie completed her Bachelor of Science in Computer Technology at the University of Illinois (UIS). She was an inspiration and motivated others to further their education and life opportunities. She worked with the Illinois Department of Professional Regulations and the Illinois Department of Human Services from which she retired.

It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone. Part of us went with you the day God called you home.

Visitation: 10-11 am, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.

Funeral Mass: 11 am, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Braden Maher officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

I only recently learned of Kathy's passing. I worked with her for many years at DPR. Our paths crossed a few times after she transferred and she would always call me 'kid'! Her laugh and smile were the best! Prayers to the family.

Kathy was in my class at Ursuline. I don't think I ever saw her after graduation, but her picture here looks just like I remember her. I had so much fun with Kathy and loved her sense of humor. Once she and I participated in an assembly and made up our 2 man band playing along with Alexander's Ragtime Band. We were not afraid to be silly. I always wished our paths would cross again after I moved back to Springfield when I retired. My prayers and thoughts are with the family.

To the family and friends of my Dear Cousin Kathryn (Puggie) Brazier, I was saddened when I got the news that my cousin had departed this life. She was a fighter in more ways than one. I remember she got on my case once leaving me practically speechless. Her yearly ritual included coming to Saginaw to spend time with her Aunt Cleo. Puggie told me “now Hankie, you know when I come up here to Saginaw that I need to get around. Well what’s this about you and Aunt Cleo’s car? She tells me that you cancelled the insurance so nobody can drive.” Her Aunt Cleo then rubbed salt into the womb by saying to Puggie “and another thing, that car is just sitting over there with a full tank of gas!” Puggie then gave me a stare down and a growl that let me know she meant business. After that I made sure that she got the royal chaffered treatment wherever and whenever she needed to go. She was so special to my family and we will continue to have fond memories of her. She truly loved her family and always spoke highly of everybody. Although we loved her and did not want her to leave, God knew how hard the journey had become. She often talked about her health problems but every summer that did not deter her from seeing about us here in Saginaw. I thank God for blessing us with Puggie. She reminds me of Jesus by making sacrifices for others with no expectations in return. She will truly be missed. Although, we are not there in person, we share your loss and are with you all in spirit. I know it’s not going to be easy without hearing Puggie’s raspy voice flowing with words of encouragement or with words of correction when we need it. God’s word tells us in 1st Peter 5:10, “But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.” Yes, we are suffering today but try to focus on the legacy that she left behind in our hearts. My deepest sympathies and condolences to the family. May the God of all comfort strengthen you to cope and endure this difficult time 2Corinthians 1:3,4.
