SPRINGFIELD – Katherine C. Martin, 71, of Springfield, IL passed away in her sleep at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 12, 2010.
She was born on November 21, 1938 in New Orleans, LA to the late Stanton and Katherine O’Brien Chassaignac. Katherine married Michael E. Martin on December 26, 1960. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2003.
She is survived by three daughters, Stephanie (Dan) Williams of Houston, TX; Katherine (Grant) Franklin of Springfield; Emily (Tom) Rhomberg of Chicago, two sons, Dave (Suzanne) Martin of Sammamish, WA and Stanton (Rebekah) Martin of San Antonio, TX; 11 Grandchildren; four sisters, Betsy Leinhardt of LA; Mary (Don) Burks of TX; Carol (Gilbert) Watermeier of LA; Ann (Dennis) Moore of LA; two brothers, Louis (Bobbie) Chassaignac of LA and Paul Chassaignac of VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Katherine was a member of Christ the King Church, Federated Junior Women’s Club, Illinois Symphony Guild, Carillon Belles, Red Hat Society, Garden Club and Cachet Club. She was a volunteer at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Caregivers and the University of Illinois Sangamon Auditorium. She was active in several bridge clubs.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at Christ the King Church followed by a Memorial Mass at 12 p.m. with Monsignor David Lantz officiating. A second mass will be held at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in New Orleans, LA at 10a.m., Saturday, August 28, 2010. Inurnment will be at Lake Lawn Metairie in New Orleans, LA.
