SPRINGFIELD – Karen Anne Gorda, 58, of Springfield died at 3:05 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Memorial Medical Center.
She was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Springfield, the daughter of Robert C. and Bessie Fortner Sennings. She married John Gorda on Sept. 30, 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Gorda, a lifelong resident of Springfield, was a bookkeeper for Mansion View Lodge, Oak Crest Country Club and Goodwill Industries for many years and then owned and operated a home day care for 15 years. She enjoyed cooking and was a die-hard Cubs fan.
Surviving are her husband, John Gorda of Springfield; a daughter, Kristy (husband, Ryan) Bietsch of Springfield; two sons, Dan (wife, Kat) Forgas of Manassas, Va., and Steve (wife, Melanie) Forgas of Stafford, Va.; five grandchildren, Ben, Josh, Bethany, Lauren and Caiden (due July 18, 2008); a brother, Robert (wife, Mary Kay) Sennings of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; several aunts and uncles; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Staab Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with the Rev. Robin Roth officiating. Memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
