June Hudson Leach

April 24, 1923 - March 11, 2009

SPRINGFIELD – June Hudson Leach, 85, of Springfield died at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.

She was born April 24, 1923, in Springfield, the daughter of John M. and Martha Fern Hudson Jacaway. She married Virgil W. Leach on Sept. 20, 1942; he preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, John M. and Fern Jacaway; stepmother, Ethel Mae Jacaway; sister, Doris Edlen; and brother, John Melton Jacaway Jr.

Mrs. Leach was a lifelong resident of Springfield. She was a waitress for the Elks Club and Capital Airport for many years, worked as a bus monitor for Springfield School District 186 for 15 years and delivered newspapers for The State Journal-Register for 12 years. She was a member of Harvard Park Baptist Church for more than 54 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Sharon (Herbert) Brust of Chatham; son, Larry Wayne Leach of Springfield; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce Frenz and Lorene Barritt, both of Springfield; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Russell and Lori Robertson and Chuck and Eleanor Conrady; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Bennie Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park.

Mom loved God, Family, America, Babies, St. Louis Cardinals, World Series, Dairy Queen, Car rides, the color blue, her church, working in her yard and cutting the grass, her neighbors, Television, movies and most of all Virgil W. Leach. Mom was a strong hard-headed, hard-loving woman. She was a good mother, wife and grandma. We were blessed. We love you and you will be missed. Love always, Sharon and Larry.
