Joy Kimler, 86, of Springfield, died at 10:31 am, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at her home.  She was born August 13, 1928 in Fountain Green, Illinois, the fourth child of Earl and Millie Reed Kimler.  She graduated from Western High in Macomb, Illinois; Walton School of Higher Accountancy, Chicago, Illinois; Gem City Business College, Quincy, Illinois and California College of Commerce, Long Beach, California.

Joy worked for Thompson, Dechow, Johannson & Reich, a regional CPA firm in Oakland, CA.  She sat for and passed the CPA exam while living in California.  In 1965 she moved back to Illinois to be closer to her parents.  She became a CPA in Illinois and worked for Turnbull & Schussele CPA firm and was made a partner in that firm in 1969.  Joy was the first female CPA in public accounting in Springfield.  In 1980 she was hired by John Homeier as Treasurer of his oil company, Bi-Petro, Inc. She served in that capacity until she retired in 1992.  Before being hired by Bi-Petro, Inc. she had spent her entire professional life in public accounting.

Joy was a member of the AICPA, Illinois CPA Society, and the Central Chapter of CPA’s.   She served on the Board of Directors for the Illinois CPA Society and held various offices for the Central Chapter of CPA’s.  She was a member of the Sangamo Club and a member of the Rail Women’s Golf Association.  She was also a member of the Altrusa Club of Springfield and served as a board member of their Foundation.  As a member of the First Christian Church of Springfield, Joy served as Elder and also taught the 7th and 8th grade Sunday School classes.  In 1977 she became a member of Laurel United Methodist Church, Springfield, IL and continued that membership until her death.  She taught Sunday School and also served as a member of the Board of Trustees.  She volunteered with Contact Ministries and Kumler Neighborhood Ministries and various community projects through her church and Altrusa.

She loved her family, church, friends and sports.  She was very active in golf, bowling and softball.  She won trophies in all of these sports.

Oh, how she loved her CUBBIES! Joy was very proud to be a lifetime member of the Die Hard Cub Fan Club.  She was also a fan of the Chicago Bears and Illini basketball team.  She participated in all of the Women’s Pro-Am events during the LPGA tournaments in Springfield and also a few of those Women’s Pro-Am events held in Phoenix, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, lifetime friend Maxine “Mickey” Windsor, brothers Douglas and Ronald Kimler, sister, Earlene McClure and two nephews, Larry McClure and Tommie Joe McClure.

She is survived by her sister, Lou Ann (husband, Buddy Herriman) of  Macomb, IL; sister-in-law, Norma Kimler of  Apache Junction, AZ; nephews, Timothy Kimler, Edward McClure and Robin Kimler; nieces, Angela Kimler, Sue Leineberg, Connie Wegeng, Teresa Montgomery, Eva Joe Fisher, Ronda Baker and Barbara Woodford; several cousins and many friends.

Visitation:  9-10:30 am, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Laurel United Methodist Church.

Funeral Service:   10:30 am, Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Laurel United Methodist Church with Reverend Dr. Kent Lolling officiating.  Burial will be at 3 pm, Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Macomb, Illinois.
