Sister Josephine Mary Hutjens, OSF
SPRINGFIELD – Sister Josephine Hutjens (91) of the Hospital Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis died on June 19, 2007 at 11:53 AM at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.
Sister Josephine, the former Josephine Mary Hutjens, was born in DePere, Wisconsin, on April 24, 1916, the daughter of Albert and Anna Van Dyck Hutjens. She entered the Congregation on February 2, 1937 and professed her religious vows on October 4, 1939.
Sister was a 1944 graduate of St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing. She served the Community in nursing and pastoral care at hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She returned to the Motherhouse in 1998.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Henry, Norbert, Sylvester, and Edward Hutjens. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Becker and Marge Lott of Green Bay, Wisconsin; one brother, Joseph (Alice) Hutjens of DePere, Wisconsin; two sisters-in-laws, Germaine Hutjens and Marie Hutjens, both of DePere, Wisconsin; many cousins and nieces and nephews; as well as her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for 70 years.
Visitation will be held at the Motherhouse from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Wake Service at 6:30 PM on Thursday, June 21, 2007. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Andre Schludecker, OFM on Friday, June 22, 2007 at 9:00 AM in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
