SPRINGFIELD – Josephine M. Magerl, 82, of Springfield, formerly of Milwaukee, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
She was born May 25, 1926, in Lake Leelanau, Mich., the daughter of Frank and Josephine E. Kuemin Hahnenberg. She married James A. Magerl on June 17, 1947.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kim Magerl; four sisters; and a brother.
She is survived by her husband, James A. Magerl of Springfield; four daughters, Jan M. (husband, Paul) Zaffo of Warrensburg, N.Y., Steffanie A. (husband, Wes) Halleck of Tacoma, Wash., Mary J. (husband, Harold) Osborn of Springfield, and Angela R. (husband, Raymond) Lytle of Petersburg; six sons, Gregory A. Magerl of Iraq, Nicholas J. Magerl of Tacoma, Wash., Roch A. (wife, Sharon) Magerl of Pleasant Plains, Dennis M. (wife, Penny) Magerl of Longview, Texas, Kevin J. (wife, Deborah) Magerl of Springfield, and Jason G. (wife, Mary) Magerl of Cantrall; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill (wife, Marge) Hahnenberg of Mich.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Josephine was a resident of Springfield since 1969. She worked for Mel-O-Cream donuts for 10 years, retiring in 1980. She then worked as a nursing assistant at St. John’s Hospital for 11 years, retiring in 1991.
She was a member of St. Aloysius Church and Franciscan Lay Associates.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with prayer service at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2009, at St. Aloysius Church, with the Rev. Mark Schulte officiating.
Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 10 a.m.
Memorials may be made to St. Aloysius School.
