Joseph “Joe” C. Perkinton, 83, of Springfield, IL died at 12:14 am, Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Taylorville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born March 2, 1938 in Springfield, IL to Clifford and Merle Edith (Anderson) Perkinton. He married Linda Peterson in Litchfield, IL on October 12, 1963.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Perkinton of Springfield; three children, Sheila Perkinton (Dontell Bailey), Joseph Edward Perkinton and James Robert (Rochelle) Perkinton, all of Springfield; four grandsons, Anthony Perkinton, Bailey Perkinton, Dylan Joseph Perkinton (Destiny Hamm) and Brandon Michael Goldesberry; one great granddaughter, Brayleigh Grace Perkinton; one sister, Mary Perkinton of Springfield and several nieces and nephews.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Thomas Wesley Perkinton.
Joe is a veteran of the United Sates Air National Guard, where he served for seven years as an electronic technician.
He retired from the Illinois State Police in 1991 as the Director in the Communications Bureau.
Joe was a member of the Legion of Honor, Shriners and Masonic Lodge #4 for 50 years. He was a HAM radio operator from the time of high school on through his life. He loved to fish, work on cars, and spending time with his grandsons.
Visitation: 1 – 2:45 pm, Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
A Masonic Service will be held at 2:45 pm with words of remembrance from the family being held at 3 pm, Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
CDC protocol shall be followed.
