Joseph George Neptune, 79, of Springfield died at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born October 11, 1933 in Elizabeth, NJ but lived in Brooklyn, NY from a young age.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Germany, stationed in Baumholder. He was a member of the Elks Club for 30 years in New York and Florida.
In Springfield, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, St. Paul’s Lodge 500 and American Legion Post 32. He was also a member of The Historic Grace Lutheran Church.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 32 years, Regina Hansen-Neptune; four children, Joseph Neptune III of NC, Ellen Kovitz of NY, Holly Hansen and William Hansen, both of Springfield; two sisters Blanche Bartsch and Honey Harper, both of NY and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph G. and Lillian E. Navarro Neptune, Sr. and five sisters Elvira Neptune, Evelyn Neptune, Murial Preiss, Helen Neptune and Mildred Lanzisera.
Memorial Service: 12 noon, Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at The Historic Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Thomas Christell officiating.
Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where Military Honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Inter-veterans Burial Detail.
