SPRINGFIELD – Joseph Bud McGrath, age 93, died at St. Joseph Home at 8:16 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2009.
He was born on March 6, 1916, in Springfield, the son of James and Jeannette Hohenstein McGrath. He graduated from Cathedral Boys High School in 1935. Bud served in the United States Army during World War II in Africa and Europe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three Sisters of the Dominicans, Sister M. Marita, Sister M. Edwardine and Sister M. Jeannette and his Franciscan Sister, Sister M. Madonna.
He was a chemistry professor at Marquette University for 31 years and retired in 1985. He was a long time active member of the Cathedral parish. In 2003, Bud entered St. Joseph Nursing Home, where he enjoyed helping other patients when needed. Visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2009, at St. Joseph Nursing Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.
