SPRINGFIELD – Joseph A. Prosperini, age 95, of Springfield died at Pleasant Hill Village in Girard at 12:05 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010.
He was born on October 22, 1914, in Springfield, IL, the son of Armando and Tesolina Verna Prosperini. He married Josephine Berger on January 8, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 1 sister. He lived most of his life in Springfield and previously lived in Detroit for 30 years. He worked for Excello Corp. for 30 years and was also a bus driver for 10 years. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II, member of American Legion, VFW, DAV, Catholic War Veterans and a senior member of the Roman Cultural Society.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine; a daughter, Cindy (Larry) Kilwy of Springfield; 2 grandchildren, Cheryl (Dave) Kessinger of Jacksonville, IL, and Jason (Carrie) Kilwy of Converse, TX; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clementine Gunsett of Columbus, Ohio, and a brother, Ernest (Delores) Prosperini of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, July 12, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home with a Roman Cultural Society tribute at 6:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating. Burial will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
