SPRINGFIELD – John W. Hofman 81, of Springfield died March 15, 2009, at St. John’s Hospice.
He was born July 10, 1927, in Carlinville, Illinois, the son of Marie Eichen Moor E. Hofman. He married Alice Walker Hofman in 1948. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2005. Also preceding him are his parents and twin brother James.
He is survived by one daughter, Marge (Randy) Stokes of Springfield; two sons, Johny Hofman of Springfield and Ray (Tricia) Hofman of Sherman; two grandsons, Jason and Derek Stokes; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Hofman worked for the State of Illinois as an electrician for 19 years, and was a member of the IBEW Local 193 for 60 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served in WWII.
He was a life member of Lefthanders Gun Club. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #71 and the Ansar Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm, Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with Masonic services at 6:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home with a graveside service at 1 p.m, at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
