John R. Teer, 77, of Springfield, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born on August 11, 1936 in Springfield to Joseph and Flora Wells Teer. He married Betty J. Gonterman in 1973 and she preceded him in death on September 6, 2004. Also preceding him in death are his parents and one sister Mary Wake.
He is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Lou) Wysocki of Tampa, FL and Debbie Lampert of Trevor, WI; one son, John (Kathi) Kaepplinger of Binghamton, NY; six grandchildren, Gage, Madison, Christopher, Lynsay, Brandon and Tessa; two sisters, Margaret (James) Davis of Springfield and Bertha Sutter of Shawano, WI; one brother, Joe (Betty Jo) Teer of Springfield; one brother in law, Wilburn Wake of Kincaid and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was a resident of Springfield for the past 20 years and previously of Wisconsin. He was a United States Navy Veteran and retired from the National Sheet Metal Workers Union. John was of the catholic faith and was a member of the Anchor Boat Club. He enjoyed watching sports but especially his two favorite teams the St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers.
Visitation: 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church.
Funeral Mass: 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 13, 2014 at Sacred Heart Church with Fr. John Nolan officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans and US Navy will conduct military honors.
