John Lee Yard, 82, of Springfield, died at 12:15 pm, Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Heritage Health. He was born January 2, 1930 in Harvel, IL to John James and Leota Blount Yard. He married Jane Pumphery on June 1, 1968, and she survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Kristina Evans of Sherman; two sons, Bill (Mary) Cockrell of Sherman and John (Jessica) Yard of Springfield; two grandsons, Dain Cockrell and Cody Evans and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents and sister, Joan Doolin preceded him in death.
John was an Instructor for the Young Hunters Safety Program with the Department of Natural Resources for over 25 years. He was a volunteer Cub Scouts Leader for Pack 352. He was passionate about hunting and raising Irish Setters.
A resident of Springfield most of his life, John, worked at Sangamon Electric, and then Carpenters Local 16 as a Carpenter Millwright. He served in the Illinois Army National Guard.
Visitation: 4:30 – 7:00 pm, Friday, December 7, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Habing officiating. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
