John C. “Jack” Casson, Jr., 54, of Springfield, IL, died at 10:50 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 at St. John’s Hospice, after a courageous three year battle with cancer. He was born on September 23, 1956 in Jacksonville, IL to John C. and Gloria J. Westenberger Casson, Sr. He married Denise Berthold on October 2, 1982.
Surviving Jack are his wife, Denise; two sons, Daniel J. (Cari) and Ryan L. (Krista) Casson both of Springfield; three grandchildren, Matthew, Makayla and Aubriana; four sisters, Barb A. Fiedler, Susan E. (Denis) Beal and Janeen L. (Joe) McCarthy all of Springfield and Patty M. (Steve) Evoy of Thompson Station, TN; five brothers, Tom R. (Lori), Bob J. (Teri), Bill B. (Lisa) and Chris E. (Christina) all of Springfield, and Jim G. of San Diego, CA; a sister-in-law, Jane (Tom) Townsend of Binghamton, NY; a brother-in-law, Paul (Connie) Berthold of Charlotte, NC, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.
Jack was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Knights of Columbus Council #4179 in Chatham and the Lake Springfield Horseshoe league. Jack enjoyed life through his faith, family and friends. He loved camping, fishing, gardening, rock and fossil collecting, woodcarving and he adored spending time with his grandkids. He worked as an Engineer Technician for Hanson Professional Services for 20 years and formerly worked with his father at Casson Engineering for 15 years.
Memorial Gathering: 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 at Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception with Reverend Peter Harman officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
