John “Jack” Bernard Tavernor, 76, of Girard, died at 11:36 pm, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Carlinville Hospital. He was born July 7, 1936 in Alton, Illinois to Thomas and Kathleen (Murphy) Tavernor. He married Carol E. Christen on June 22, 1963.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Carol; three children, Tim (Judy) Tavernor and Kathleen (Jack) Walters both of Pawnee and Tammy (Stan) Givens of Springfield; nine grandchildren; one brother, Bill Tavernor of Girard and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Stanley Tavernor; two sisters, Jean Costello and Marie Jacaway.
Jack a resident of Girard for ten years was formerly of Springfield. He was a US Navy Veteran and was an Operating Engineer with Local 965.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 10 am, Monday, October 15, 2012 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Christopher House officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery in Ashland, IL.
