John J. Mulvey, 71, of Springfield died at 1:05 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Auburn Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born January 14, 1942 in Springfield to Joseph and Anne G. Strebel Mulvey.
John is survived by one daughter, Michelle (Joe) Check of Rochester; one son, Joseph (Teri) Mulvey of Rochester; six grandchildren, Lindsey and Aaron Mulvey, Nicholas and Andrew (Samantha) Golseth and Molly and Raymond Check; two sisters, Jane Schmidt and Maureen (Cliff) Henderson both of Springfield; one brother, Michael (Mary Ann) Mulvey of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister, Mary Mulvey and one grandson, Joseph John Check.
John is a graduate of Cathedral Boys High School and retired as President from the Retail Clerks union in Springfield. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and Knights of Columbus Council #364 in Deveraux Heights. He enjoyed traveling and was most known for his generosity to others. He also enjoyed dining out with friends.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10 am, Friday, August 2, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church with Reverend Steven Janoski officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
