John H. Farmer, 81, of Springfield, died at 12:22 am, Friday, September 10, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born September 3, 1929 in Sinclair, Illinois to Henry and Gladys Stewart Farmer. He married his wife of 57 years Ruby Ann Moomey on July 18, 1953.
John was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany and France. He worked for Pillsbury as a flour packer Machine Operator, Grain Miller and Sweeper. He was a member of Pillsbury 25 year club; was an avid Cardinal, NASCAR, Bears and Illini fan. He enjoyed camping at Deer Park. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and traveling.
John is survived by his wife, Ruby Ann Farmer; daughter, Linda (Mark) Brown of Chatham; three sons, Donald (Patti) Farmer, John David Farmer and Kenneth Farmer all of Springfield; six grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Lange of Tallula and Irene Strubby of Jacksonville, a sister-in-law, Barbara Farmer of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Timothy, sister Mildred Dugger and brother Raymond.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Monday, September 13, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home. Funeral service at 10 am, Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Staab Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Gifford officiating. Burial will be held at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to The Korean War Memorial or the American Cancer Society.
