John Edward Sams passed from this life October 10, 2011. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Helen, on May 4, 1998. He was born, the son of Foster and Leta Sams on December 24, 1918.
He was a Coast Guard Veteran of WWII serving aboard the DE USS Vance in the North Atlantic.
Mr. Sams worked as a Tool & Die Maker for Sangamo Electric Co. for thirty years before retirement.
He is survived by two sons, John F. (Pat) Sams of Springfield and Michael E. (Donna) Sams of Louisville, KY; one granddaughter, Robin (Chad) Lambert of North Aurora, IL; two great granddaughters, Isabelle and Narita; one great grandson, Nathaniel; two brothers, Thomas Sams of Normal and Donald Sams of Effingham; one brother-in-law, Frank Madarasz and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Six sisters, Marge Christopher, Sue Vivian, Betty Wellman, Elizabeth Jones, Avis Martin and Dorothy Dickens and one brother, Richard Sams, as well as his parents preceded him in death.
Memorial Gathering: 9-10 am, Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Memorial Service: 10 am, Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill Health Care in Girard.
