John E. Ciccone, 87, of Springfield, died at 4:43 am, Monday, February 1, 2016 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born March 4, 1928 in Springfield, to Tito G. and Julia L. Fulgenzi Ciccone. He married Joann Graham on February 9, 1949 and she survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Juliann Ciccone of Springfield; one sister, Stella Staab of Springfield; sister-in-law, Amelia Ciccone of Springfield; two nieces, Chris Staab and Sue Staab both of Springfield and four nephews, Richard Staab, Karl (Mary) Staab and John Lee Ciccone all of Springfield and Jimmy (Alisa) Ciccone of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Dominick, Robert and James Ciccone.
John was a US. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was Service Manager for Giuffre Buick for sixty-four years.
He was a member of the Church of the Little Flower; American Legion Post #32 and Cars Club. In John’s younger years, he drove stock-cars and then John and Carlo Catalano partnered in the #77 stock-car race team. He loved animals and helped with the Feral Cat Program at APL and rescued numerous dogs. John was a NASCAR fan and also enjoyed restoring tractors.
Visitation: 10 am – 12 pm, Friday, February 5, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 12 pm, Friday, February 5, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
