SPRINGFIELD – John C. Erwin, 84, of Springfield, formerly of Detroit, MI and Chicago, died at 6:20 am, Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL. He was born October 28, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Edward C. and Blanche Hallinan Erwin. He married Patricia Tanguay on May 14, 1949 and she survives him. Also surviving are daughter Judy Erwin of Springfield; 2 sons Sean (Amy) Erwin of Alpharetta, GA and Edward (Terry) Erwin of Lindenhurst, IL; 5 grandchildren Benjamin, Matthew (Alexandra), Katherine, Kevin (Brianne) and Christopher; brother Vincent Erwin of Detroit, MI and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents and 2 brothers Edward Bud and James Erwin preceded him in death.
John was a US Marine Corp veteran serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, IL and worked several years for Equitable Life Assurance. He retired from the State of Illinois as a Bank Examiner.
Visitation will be from 10-11 am, Friday, August 27, 2010 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Springfield, IL with a funeral service at 11 am. Reverend Stephen Thompson will be officiating.
