John Robert "Bud" Dyer

John “Bud” Robert Dyer, 83, of Springfield died at 1:02 pm, March 24, 2018 at Memorial Hospice at Heritage.

John was born September 1, 1934 in Athens, IL to Robert Donald and Pearl Elizabeth (Bee) Dyer. He married Martha JoAnn Thomas on April 22, 1960 and she preceded him in death on December 17, 1998.

He is survived by his son, Perry Wayne (Kathleen) Dyer of Maywood, IL and daughter Angela Sue Dyer (fiancé Matthew Huffman) of Springfield.
John served his country in the US Army and US Army Reserves. He was employed by St. John’s Hospital as a maintenance worker and plumber for 38 years when he retired to take care of his wife who was ill. John also worked at A & P Grocery Store and Allis Chalmers.

He was a member of the UA Local 137 Plumber & Steamfitter Union, United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Fraternal Order of Eagles 437, Route 66 Cruisers Car Club and Cool Cruisers Car Club.

John was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
John will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of fishing and car shows. He was a volunteer for 18 years with the IL Dept. of Natural Resources Urban Fishing Program. He enjoyed teaching kids to fish at both Washington Park as well as each year at the IL State Fair in Conservation World. He took great pride in working in his yard and garden and polishing the Corvette. He was always ready to lend a hand when anyone needed some assistance.
He was a loving son, husband, father, uncle and friend.

Visitation: 5 – 7 pm, Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 9:30 am, Friday, March 30, 2018 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Paul Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
