SPRINGFIELD – John A. Maurer, age 37, of Springfield died on November 25, 2009, at his residence.
He was born on December 31, 1971, in Springfield, IL, the son of Dr. Joseph J. and Rosetta Marie Tega Maurer.
John is survived by his son, Jacob A. Maurer, age 8, his large family and his ex-wife, Beth Maurer of Springfield.
His family includes his father, Dr. Joseph J. Maurer, and 4 brothers and 5 sisters. They are: Dr. Joanne M. Maurer (Dr. Mark Gekas), Mary Rose Hoffman (Tom), Joseph J. Maurer Jr. (Cindy) and Matthew J. Maurer (Kristina), Diane T. Howard, Dr. Susan M. Maurer, Christopher L. Maurer (fiancee, Trisha Youngquist) and Daniel Maurer (Rachael), all of Springfield, and Linda Shoemaker of Riverton. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces will mourn his loss.
John is a graduate of Griffin High School in 1990, Sangamon State University and from Valparaiso University School of Law in 1997. He practiced law in Sangamon County and more recently has been involved in real estate. He was an accomplished musician with a sharp sense of humor and ready wit. His friends will miss his willingness to offer assistance with any endeavor. He mentored several young students and was loved by all. John will share in his eternal reward with his recently deceased, beloved mother, Rosetta M. Maurer. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, Roman Cultural Society, American Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association.
Visitation will be held from 3-7 p.m. Friday, November 27, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 28, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home, with Reverend Robert Jallas officiating.
Burial will be at Old Salem Cemetery.
