Jessie Peterson Jones

Jessie Peterson Jones, 80, of Dawson, died at 6:25 am, Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at her home. She was born August 20, 1937, in Kewanee, IL to Bulow and Jessie Tracy Peterson. She married Robert L. Leach and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1977. She married Harry W. Eumont and he preceded her in death on May 27, 1990. She married Dean L. Jones on June 15, 1997 and he survives.

Also surviving are four children; Robert A. (Mary) Leach of Springfield, Debra (Don) Leach-Motley of Springfield, Tim Leach of Athens and Roger Leach of Springfield; three step-children; twelve grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and one grandson.
Jessie retired as a teacher for Springfield District 186 after thirty three years of service and prior to that was a teacher in Riverton.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was involved with Boy Scouts and received the Silver Beaver Award for twenty years of service. She was an accomplished musician and focused on playing the harp in the past few years. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; enjoyed amateur radio; was a lifelong quilter and enjoyed sewing. She was a past commander and active member of the Springfield and Decatur Power Squadron’s, a Red Cross Instructor and was a life-long learner.

Visitation: 5-7 pm Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 9:30 am, Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield with Pastor Mike Whitaker officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
