SPRINGFIELD – Jeslyn B. Harrison, 90, of Springfield, IL died at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at her home.

She was born on February 21, 1919, in Simpson, IL, the daughter of Melvin and Ruby Bynum Burris. On July 19, 1941, she married Leo A. Harrison; he preceded her in death on February 17, 1982.

Jeslyn was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vienna, IL. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames 17th Century, the National Society of Women Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and a 50-year member of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Richard) Yates of Springfield; three grandchildren, Debbie Yates (partner, Jo Moore) of Rochester, David (wife, Cyndi) Yates of Vienna and Stephen Yates (partner, Gwyn Jones) of Springfield; seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca Richardson (partner, Chad Moffitt), Michael Yates, Collin Whitson, Dana Zake, Andrew Yates, Jaci Yates and Ezekial Yates; one great-great-grandchild, Carlee Faye Moffitt; two cousins; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Gertrude Owen; and two brothers: William and Bynum Burris.

A memorial gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Staab Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with Reverend Roger Ross officiating. Interment will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
