Jerry L. Sidener, 73 of Springfield, died at 11:48 pm Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born November 16, 1938 in Springfield to Earl and Lillian Wheeler Sidener. He married Tammy J. Bartnick on October 10, 1998 and she survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Sue (Bobby) Davis of Edinburg and Erika (Ron) Moreland of Taylorville; four grandchildren, Jeremy, Jared, Brad and Dariess; three sisters, Betty “Betts” Pree of Springfield, Norma (Larry) Ladson of Mechanicsburg and Carolyn Jones of Nashville, TN; three brothers Larry and Dick Sidener of Springfield and Bob Sidener of Cantrall and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Renee Sidener, one granddaughter, Mackenzie Moreland; one sister, Nancy and three brothers Jim, Dean and Sam Sidener and his beloved Scotty, Anibel,
Jerry was a U.S. Army veteran. He served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne and received a good conduct medal, Parachutist Badge and Expert Marksman Badge. He was a member of West Side Christian Church; American Legion Post 32; former member of the Land of Lincoln Barber Shop Chorus and teamsters Local 916. He enjoyed fishing, painting, drawing, going to the Casinos, spending time with family and friends and sitting by his camp fires and spending time with his beloved dogs, Marshall and Mac.
He began his career as a plasterer and then was a Heavy Equipment operator, in business with his brothers at Sidener Brothers Excavating. He retired from the State of Illinois DOT as a Highway Maintainer.
Visitation: 4-7 pm, Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Friday, December 30, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home with Vaughn Beeman officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveterans will conduct military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League.
