Jerome (Jerry) P. Daley, Sr. 87, of Springfield passed away at 11:48 pm, Monday, July 4, 2016 at his home. He was born on January 20, 1929 in Springfield to Joseph and Myrtle Hayden Daley, who died during his child birth. He was raised by Carl and Mary Young. He married Dorothy “Dot” Cory on December 26, 1953 and she survives.
They were blessed with six children, three daughters, Theresa (Robert) Watkin of Springfield, Amy (Mike) Laughlin and Katie (Charles) Hubbard, both of Petersburg; three sons, Jerry Daley, Jr. of Springfield, Dan (Geri) Daley of Colorado and Tim Daley of Springfield; eight grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Laughlin, Jeff Watkin, Abie Corley, Aly Cotner, Daley Ann McDonald, Logan Daley and Lacey Latham; three great grandchildren; one brother, Dave (Ruth) Young of Springfield; one sister, Millie Vigil of California and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of rural Springfield and a member of St. Frances Cabrini Church. Besides being a great Dad to “six high-spirited kids”, Jerry was a talented gardener and an avid horseman and hunter. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was a radio operator on a sea rescue plane and B-29 bomber. Jerry retired from Fiat Allis and State of Illinois.
Visitation: 4–7 pm, July 14, 2016 at Staab Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 4 pm.
Funeral Mass: 10:30 am, July 15, 2016 at St. Cabrini Church with Reverend Robert Porter officiating.
Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
