SPRINGFIELD – Jerome L. Moe Faulkner, 84, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died at 6:35 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at St. John’s Hospice.

He was born July 3, 1925, in Springfield, the son of Ross and Ellen McGill Faulkner. He married Shirley on July 23, 1953.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen Voss and Ethel Gibson, and two brothers, Ross and Harvey Faulkner.

Mr. Faulkner worked for Pillsbury for 38 1/2 years. He retired as a scheduler, then worked as a doorman for the House of Representatives for 21 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served aboard the DE USS Coffman. He received a star for the American Theatre.

He was a member of St. Aloysius Church and Knights of Columbus Council 364. He was an avid card player and Cardinal fan. He enjoyed visiting the O.T.B. He loved blueberry muffins at Panera Bread on Dirksen Parkway.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley D. Faulkner of Springfield; a daughter, Reva Montalbano of Springfield; two sons, Jerry (Nancy) Faulkner of Chatham and Tom (Trudy) Faulkner of Springfield; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Danny (Juanita) Faulkner and Donald Faulkner, both of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at St. Aloysius Church, with the Rev. Mark Schulte officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail will conduct military honors.

Memorials may be made to the Animal Protective League, St. John’s Hospice or Masses.
