Jeffrey “Jeff” M. Darnall, 26, of Springfield, died at 9:45 am, Wednesday, April 6, 2011 after an 18 month hard fought battle with melanoma cancer. He was born August 11, 1984 in Springfield, Illinois to Dwayne and Mary Kreher Darnall.
Survivors include his parents; one sister, Aimee Darnall of Riverton; grandmothers, Betty Kreher of Decatur and Betty Vogel of Bloomington and several aunts, uncles and cousins and beloved dog and best friend, Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Keher and Kenneth Darnall.
Jeff was a member of St. James Church in Riverton. He volunteered at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum. He enjoyed fishing, beach volleyball, hiking, music (especially, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan and Easton Corbin), cooking, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears and visiting wineries. His favorite TV shows and movies include James Bond Top Chef, Cake Boss, NCIS, Anthony Bourdain and House.
He attended St. Aloysius Grade School Ursuline Academy and graduated from Riverton High School, where he participated in track and cross country. He was a graduate of SIUC with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He worked for Horace Mann from July 2007 till March 2010 as an Annuity Specialist. He then became a CNA through CACC and began working at Lewis Memorial Christian Village in July 2010. He was continuing his education to become an RN thru LLCC. His passion was to become an Oncology Nurse to help others with cancer.
Visitation: 3-6 pm Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Staab Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 6 pm
Lie In State: 10-11 am, Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. James Church in Riverton
Funeral Mass: 11 am, Monday, April 11, 2011 at St. James Church in Riverton with Reverend Joseph Ring officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; Donor’s choice of Animal Shelter or the American Red Cross
