Sister Jean Marie Schwarz, O.S.F. (85) of the Hospital Sisters of St. Francis died on Monday, July 6, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. at St. Francis Convent, Springfield, Illinois.
Sister Jean Marie, the former Dolores Stella Schwarz, was born in Belleville, IL, on September 23, 1923, the daughter of Walter and Margaret Zahn Schwarz. She entered the congregation on February 2, 1942, and professed her religious vows on June 13, 1945.
Sister served the community as a dietician in hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin. She served at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan, WI, from 1959-1972 and again from 1980-1986. She also served as a receptionist/switchboard operator at Hospital Sisters Health System from 1991-2003.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Brenner.
She is survived by one brother, Darwin Schwarz of Belleville, IL, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and her Franciscan Sisters with whom she shared her life for over 67 years.
Visitation will be held at the Motherhouse on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, from 4:00-7:00 PM with a Wake Service at 6:30 PM. The Eucharistic Celebration and Rite of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Vincent Callahan, OFM, on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Clare of Assisi Adoration Chapel at the Motherhouse. Burial will be in Crucifixion Hill Cemetery.
